An Open Letter To Elected Officials: GMO Labeling NOW!

Dear elected official(s):

As part of the majority that favors GMO labeling, I write this letter to express my concern about the future of GMO’s and food corporation’s unethical takeover in America, and specifically, our great agricultural state of Ohio.

I believe in supporting small farms and buying locally grown fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat. But when I choose to shop elsewhere, I rely on major grocery chains to supply abundant options. To make my choices from the options, I rely on information provided by the Non-GMO Project, BuyCott and other sources to help me make what I firmly believe to be wise choices for my family.

I must express my right and desire to know what I am eating, how it was grown, where it was grown and how it may impact my health. I am not alone with this request. According to a poll by Cleveland.com, 93% votes cast by readers claim they do want to have non-GMO labeling; a mere 5.95% said no; and .45% claimed they aren’t educated enough to make the decision. In February, OEFFA revealed majority in favor of GMO labeling from a survey of 520 registered voters.

Please support all of Ohio by voting NO on HR1599, which would prohibit mandatory GMO labeling at the state and federal level. This means sugar, oil, soy, cottonseed, milled corn and starch from GMO corn to be labeled NON-GMO.

In addition, by voting YES on Defazio/Boxer Bill HR913 and SB511, Ohians can enjoy the reliability of true mandatory labeling. We will have immediate access to knowledge that allows us to truly buy organic and non-GMO if that is our choice.

It has been proven time and time again, although Monsanto and others refute evidence and demand new studies (which they often fund), that GMOs are not sustainable, they are not eco-friendly, and they are very likely to cause cancer. This is not a future I wish to see in Ohio, and most of us do not. The majority wants GMO labeling. This is a fact. Without this information, many of us fear for the future. My child does not deserve to grow up in a world like that.

I urge and beg that you take a stand.  Listen to the voices of your people. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Perry
